Most patients have $0 out of pocket expenses.
Varicose vein procedures are covered by Molina insurance if treatment is considered medically necessary.
Medically necessary means that your varicose veins (some people have no visible signs of varicose veins but have underlying venous reflux) cause symptoms such as leg pain, heaviness, fatigue, night cramps, restless legs, bleeding or hemorrhage from the veins, skin discoloration around the ankles, phlebitis or hard lumpy painful veins, blood clots, and leg ulcerations. Symptoms interfere with daily life, for example, if you are unable to sleep because night cramps wake you from sleep or you are unable to do your job or housework like cooking, without having to stop to rest your legs. If you have symptoms, you must also try conservative management for 90 days. Significant venous reflux must also be documented on ultrasound.
It's best if you discuss your vein condition with your primary care provider and start using compression stockings and other conservative measures before seeking vein treatment. Insurance requires conservative management for 90 days before qualifying for vein treatment, so it's best to start this as soon as possible and ask for a prescription for compression stockings from your primary care physician. Conservative measures can reduce symptoms and help your legs feel better. This includes:
-compression stockings
-leg elevation
-NSAIDS like ibuprofen
-ice packs
-exercise daily (walking 30 minutes, or other exercise)
-weight loss if overweight
